How to care for your Christmas tree
A real tree indoors is like a bunch of cut flowers: with water and a cool spot it stays fresh for weeks. Follow these steps from the moment the tree arrives at your door.
Let the tree adjust to the warmth
If it is freezing outside, do not bring the tree straight into a warm room. Leave it for a few hours somewhere cool, such as a stairwell or a balcony, then bring it in and remove the net.
Recut the trunk
Within a few hours of cutting, the trunk seals with sap and stops taking up water. Before putting the tree in the stand, saw 2 to 3 cm straight off the bottom of the trunk and place it in water right away.
Water it every day
In the first days a tree can drink more than a litre of water a day. A rough rule: about 1 litre a day for every 2.5 cm of trunk diameter.
Check the stand every morning and evening. The end of the trunk must always be under water: if the water runs out, the cut seals with sap again. Plain tap water is enough, no additives needed.
Pick a cool spot
Place the tree away from radiators, fireplaces, heaters and direct sunlight. The cooler the room, the longer the needles hold. If the air is very dry, a humidifier helps.
Safe lights
Use LED lights, as they barely warm the branches. Switch them off at night and when you leave home, and check that the cables are not damaged.
After the holidays
When the holidays are over, take off the decorations and lights. You can add Grinch removal to your order for 5 €, later it costs 15 €. After the holidays we send you a form and agree the day we collect the tree.
