How to choose a Christmas tree
A well chosen tree stays beautiful until Epiphany. Here is what to know before you order: height, width, type of tree and the stand.
Measure your ceiling
Together with the stand and the topper, the tree should end about 20 to 30 cm below the ceiling. The stand adds around 10 to 15 cm, a star or topper another 15 to 20 cm.
In a typical Riga flat with 2.5 to 2.7 m ceilings, a 170 to 185 cm or 180 to 200 cm tree fits. Older buildings with ceilings of 3 m and more take 200 to 220 cm or 230 to 250 cm. Houses with high ceilings, offices and halls suit a 300 to 350 cm tree.
Think about the width too
A Nordmann fir is full, and its lowest branches usually spread about half of its height. A 180 to 200 cm tree takes roughly one metre at the bottom. Measure the corner or the spot by the window before you order, so the branches do not reach a door or a radiator.
Why a Nordmann fir
Nordmann fir needles are soft and do not prick, so children can decorate it easily. In a warm flat it keeps its needles much longer than a common spruce, as long as the trunk always stands in water.
A Nordmann fir grows evenly with dense branches, so decorations hang well. Its scent is milder than a common spruce.
How to tell a fresh tree
Fresh needles are flexible and do not snap when you bend them between your fingers. Branches spring back, and a gentle shake drops only a few needles. The cut at the trunk should be light and moist, not dark and dry.
We pick every tree ourselves and keep them cold. If your tree sheds its needles before Christmas, we replace it for free.
Choose the right stand
A stand should hold the tree straight and have a water reservoir, because a tree drinks a lot in the first days. Our stand fits trees up to 300 cm, holds 4.92 l of water and grips trunks up to 15.5 cm across. You can add it to your order with the tree.
