After the holidays you can take your tree to a collection point, cut it up for compost, or have it collected straight from your door. If you bought the tree from us, the easiest way is to let the Grinch take it: collection costs €5 if you add it to your order, or €15 if you book it later.

Below are all the options, how our collection works and how to get the tree ready so there is no trail of needles down the stairs.

When to take the tree down

In Latvia the tree traditionally comes down after Epiphany, Zvaigznes diena, on 6 January. If the trunk has stood in water the whole time, the tree usually still looks good, but the longer it stays in the warm, the drier it gets. If it starts shedding heavily, take the decorations and lights off sooner.

Our Grinch collects trees on set days in the first and second week of January, from 4 January to 17 January.

Grinch collection from your door

If you bought the tree from us, the Grinch collects it from the same address where Santa delivered it. You carry nothing down the stairs. The Grinch puts the tree in a bag and takes it away, and the needles stay in the bag, not in the stairwell.

Collection points

In many places municipalities or waste companies collect Christmas trees in January, often from set spots next to the bins. The places and dates can change from year to year, so check your waste company's or municipality's website before you carry the tree out. The tree must be free of decorations, lights and tinsel.

Compost

If you have a house with a compost heap, you can saw the tree up and chop the branches. Thin twigs and needles break down more slowly than leaves, so mix them with other garden waste.

How Grinch collection works

  1. Add collection to your order. At checkout, collection costs €5. If you forgot, you can book it later for €15, paid on the spot when the Grinch arrives.
  2. Get the form after Christmas. After the holidays we send you a link to the collection booking form. There you find your order by its number and the phone number you gave when ordering.
  3. Choose a day and time. We collect on set days from 4 January to 17 January, in three time slots: 8:00-12:00, 12:00-16:00 and 16:00-22:00. Full slots are greyed out. The address is filled in from your order, and you can add the door code and floor in the notes.
  4. Get a confirmation. Once you have booked, we send a confirmation by email. If you need to change the time, open the form again or give us a call.
  5. The Grinch arrives. At the agreed time he picks up the tree and carries it away.

If the form has not arrived after the holidays, check your spam folder or call +371 20066833.

How to get the tree ready

  • Take off all decorations, lights and tinsel. The form asks you to confirm this.
  • If the tree is in a stand with water, pour the water out so it does not spill when the tree is lifted.
  • Make sure the tree is reachable at the agreed time and the Grinch can get into the building.
  • If there is a door code or no lift, write it in the notes on the form.

What not to do

  • Do not leave the tree in the stairwell or by the bins unless your waste company allows it. It gets in the neighbours' way and can be a fire risk.
  • Do not burn the tree in a fireplace or stove. Dry, resinous needles flare up very quickly.
  • Do not throw it out with the decorations still on. Glass baubles and lights cannot be composted and can injure the people who collect the trees.

Decide when you order

The cheapest and simplest way is to decide about collection when you order the tree. We ask about it at the end of checkout, and adding it then costs €5 instead of €15. You can see the whole process from order to collection on how it works, and the trees and prices in the shop.
