What a Nordmann Premium fir is

Botanically, the Nordmann fir is a true fir (Abies nordmanniana). In the wild it grows in the Caucasus mountains, and across Europe it is widely grown as a Christmas tree because it grows symmetrically, has dense branches and soft needles.

Our trees have soft needles that do not prick, so they are safe for small children too. They shed 3 to 5 times less than an ordinary spruce, and if the trunk always stands in water, the needles hold for up to 4 weeks. Read how it compares with an ordinary spruce in Nordmann fir or ordinary spruce.

The grower in Denmark

We work with a respected Danish company that has been in the tree nursery business for more than 40 years and puts quality ahead of volume. Denmark is one of the largest Nordmann fir growers in Europe.

A good tree takes time. The smallest trees grow in the field for 5 to 8 years, medium sizes up to 10 years, and the largest trees 20 years and more. That is why a 3 metre tree is much rarer and costs more than a 1.7 metre one.

We pick every tree ourselves

We do not order trees as one big load. The Dārza Draugi team personally tags and selects every tree before we order it. We look for a tree that is full from every side, with tight and even branches, not sparse like an ordinary spruce.

Cutting

The trees are not cut in autumn and stockpiled. They are cut about 5 to 7 days before delivery, so the tree that reaches you is fresh.

After cutting, the trees are given at least 2 to 3 days to settle. Only then are they packed and loaded, so the branches and needles are not damaged on the way.

Storage at our yard

At our yard every tree is kept in a cold warehouse under a roof at outdoor temperature. We never keep the trees somewhere warm, because that way the needles stay stronger and the tree lasts longer in your home.

Our yard is at Lotes, Klīves, Babīte parish, Mārupe municipality, LV-2107 (Waze: "Dārza Draugi"). You are welcome to come and choose a tree there with your family. The yard is open every day, just call +371 20066833 first so someone is there to meet you.

From our yard to your door

On the day and time you choose, Santa brings the tree from the yard and helps carry it to your door. We deliver every day from 25 November to 5 January. Delivery is free in Riga and within 50 km of the yard, Jūrmala costs €5 (free from €100). See every zone on the delivery zones page.
